apple crisp recipe

Yippee, it is Friday and I can't wait for the weekend to begin. If you are looking for a great fall recipe this weekend to keep you busy, then look no further... I have a scrumptious recipe for you. I love love love apple crisp, especially when I am able to use fresh apples from the orchard. This recipe I borrowed from my mother is fast and easy to do, and tastes great with vanilla ice cream. Have a fabulous weekend everyone and enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 4 cups of apples peeled and sliced (add more if you like, I usually do)
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1/3 cup of flour
  • 1/3 cup of butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 cup of brown sugar
  • 1 cup of oats ( I like to add more)
Preparation
  • Take your apples and mix with sugar.
  • Butter your dish. I like to use a 9x13 inch pan.
  • Mix all remaining ingredients together.
  • Place apples in pan.
  • Crumble oat mixture on top.
  • Bake for 30 minutes at 375F or until you see your apples have cooked down.

is this week over yet?

This picture sums up how I feel this week. This momma is tired, grumpy and dealing with a toddler who has a major attitude problem. Please let the weekend bring me some peace!

let the party planning begin

The countdown is on for Little Miss L.'s 2nd birthday party this weekend. Little Miss L. has requested that Elmo and the Cookie Monster be present at her party. Well, what better way to celebrate than a Sesame Street-themed party! The shopping has begun, the baking supplies have been bought, and this momma is on a mission to transform her home into Sesame Street, even if it is just for a few hours. Fingers crossed I can put a smile on Little Miss L.'s face when she wakes up on Sunday morning. I will let you all know how it turns out.

weekend catch-up

This weekend was full of celebration. On Saturday, we celebrated the hubby's birthday. To be honest, I have been a little lazy lately when it comes to planning birthday fun. I asked the hubby what he felt like doing for his birthday this year and his response was that he is too old now to doing anything special. I thought to myself, I love love love birthdays and fall, so what better way to enjoy both of them than heading to the apple orchard. We had a great morning at the orchard - Little Miss L. loved picking the apples off the trees all by herself. She also enjoyed eating the fresh juicy apples; she never went empty handed until we got into the vehicle to leave. After spending the morning at the orchard, we headed home and made some delicious homemade apple sauce. It was the perfect fall day!

Sunday morning, we woke up and were greeted by my parents. I love love love them, probably more than they know. They drove for an hour to make our family breakfast; there is nothing better than a Sunday morning breakfast with all the works. After spending the morning with my parents, the afternoon was spent with my in-laws who joined us for a birthday dinner to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday. It was a wonderful day spent with our families. Little Miss L. was in her glory as she loves spending time with her grandparents. As she headed off to bed, I asked her if she had fun with her grandparents today and her response was "Yes, I love so much." It was a great fall weekend spending time with my family and celebrating our loved ones' birthdays.
Little Miss L. loved her wagon ride.
Humm, this apple is sour.
If she could, Little Miss L. would spend all day eating apples.
Daddy gets in on the action.
The men working hard in the orchard.
One big apple!
I love love love fall.
Little Miss L. was a pro apple-picker.
Baby D slept through the whole thing.
Daddy and his babies.
As you all know, I like to jump when I am happy.
I love this precious girl.
I can't wait to carve our pumpkins.
Family shot.
Happy Birthday daddy!
Little Miss L. couldn't wait to help daddy blow his candle out.
Grandma's birthday dinner.
One of Little Miss L.'s favourite things to do is blow out the candles.
I love apple crisp. We put our apples to good use; thanks mom for the help!

girls just want to have fun

On Wednesday Little Miss L. and I enjoyed a playdate with our good friends. When all the girls gather, we always have a good time. I love love love watching our little ones growing up together. Even though one minute they seem like they can't stand being around each other and then the next minute they are inseparable. I love days that involve good friends, yummy food, and laughing children... there is nothing better than seeing a smile on their faces.
Little Miss E. and her curls.
I love love love this precious face.
A stolen moment.
There is nothing like some yummy food to make the day better.
Time to get our bake on!
The girls could not wait to make cupcakes.
Little Miss L. & T were happy to show Little Miss E. how it is done.
They could not wait to taste their creations.
This is fun momma - I am decorating it all by myself.
The finished product.
Yummy!
These are some serious cupcake-eating skills.
Hard at work.

turtle... turtle... turtle

Looks like we are starting our very own zoo in the backyard. The other day, we came across this little guy - it was the first time Little Miss L. had the chance to see a turtle in person. She loved this little creature; it makes me wonder what we will find next...
Little Miss L. was so excited to meet her new friend that she wanted to give him a flower.
Get out of my way!

weekend catch-up

The weather is changing, which means that cold and flu season is upon us. Well, three out of four people living in this household came down with a cold last week. The weekend consisted of a little girl whose cough broke my heart to listen too, a little boy who struggled to sleep with his stuffed-up nose, and a momma who wasn't in the mood to come down with a huge head cold. Big thanks to a hubby who dealt with three whiny people, just one more reason why I love you! Even though I was under the weather, I was still happy because one of my favourite seasons is right around the corner. I love love love fall and all it has to offer. It is time to watch the leaves change to a beautiful hue, hit up the apple orchard, and we can't forget it is pumpkin picking time! Looking forward to getting healthy and enjoying the next few weekends of fall.
The leaves in our backyard are already changing!
I love love love cattails.
As much as I am looking forward to our pond freezing so we can skate on it this winter, I will miss watching the frogs on our lily pads.
Our new friend the Heron. I can get about 10 feet away before he decides we are too close for comfort.
I can't believe how big he is.
Even though she was a sick little girl, she still was able to smile.
Taking a moment to relax with my little bundles of joy.
Best friends.
One proud daddy
I love Little Miss L.'s facial expression - it says it all.
